Something no one likes to confront is pain. When investing pain comes in the
form of trades going against us or positions not holding their gains or worse
becoming losses.

It's come to my attention that I may have overlooked an important piece of my LT
portfolio management. When/how I buy and sell.

Portfolio rules
In my opinion, discipline is imperative to successful portfolio management. Here
are the rules I use to manage my portfolio:
1. 12-15 positions
2. Full-size positions are as large as 15% of the portfolio
3. Only starters can be allocated overweight size (+15%)
4. Speculative holdings cannot be full-size positions
A portfolio built like a championship basketball franchise
I've spent a lot of time going over how I wanted to structure my long term
portfolio. The number of names has ranged from 10-30 while managing my long term
account.
After experimenting with varying numbers of positions and different sizes, I
found a style I like -
